A material study and folly, the Ramp Building is two things, a half pipe and a recreation building. Skatelite and Hemplite - proprietary materials manufactured by Rainier Richlite - are paper and fiber based sheet materials that are designed for surface use on skateboard ramps and parks. Responsibly manufactured, low maintenance, weatherproof, and durable, this material is used extensively in ramps - but what about buildings? The Ramp Building explores the use of the material in a rainscreen wall condition, taking advantage of the consistent color through the material and the standardized sheet sizes.
