In the wake of the calamitous Victoria fires, the Bushranger House seeks
to embody a spirit of willfullness and hardy perseverance. The
house, born of a single ‘pod’, takes stock of that which is available and
necessary and offers one answer for building anew in a hazardous
landscape.
The ‘pod’ is taken as a module, in a tatami-esque excercise, and the
floors are produced via the existing 'pod’ floor molds. Energy systems include a solar electric and
hot water array on the metal corrugated roof, a rainwater harvesting
system, geothermal heating and cooling, and an optional wallmounted
evaporative cooler. The
house is simple, functional, and compact. Designed for the ReGrowth Competition (shortlisted).
